Jeri Winter Training 2009
9th Jan 2010 @ 05:53:07 PM
sSs Team Rider, Adam Sims, is taking his windsurfing career very seriously and what better place to train over the winter than Jeri. Adam talks about his experiences:
''Going to Jeri I had no real expectations from it other than sun, heat and some wind. So I took a full quiver from 3.7 to 5.2 Ezzy Freewaves and 3 boards; RRD Twintip 100 and 88 and the Twinfin 82l. As I arrived all I could think was 'paradise'. It really is amazing, if you want sun and wind then you get it here in perfect amounts. For the 5 weeks I was there I used my 4.2 and 4.7 only, the 4.7 came out 3 of those days. Some days we would sit down at breakfast, which includes cake, all of us knackered from the day before and we would simply look at each other and just state how ridiculous this place is. You visit so many other spots in the world and you expect a day or two a week off due to wind, put simply, you don't expect that in Jeri in November/December. It was brilliant to be able to get up and discuss what you were going to practice today with the knowledge that you were because you knew it was going to be windy.
Aside from the wind the beaches are amazing and the sand dunes are like miniature mountains. Quite often we rented a beach buggy or a truck and went inland to a nearby lagoon where we would windsurf until sunset on perfect flat water or small chop, the choices seemed to be endless. They were a good place to practice starboard tack moves because although there was the flat between the waves at the main break, there never seemed to be quite enough time to do something other than a jump move off a wave but great for port tack.
When we weren't windsurfing there was so much to do; there were bars with hammocks and cocktails for chilling out, there was bar street for partying it up late into the night and all this whilst mingling amongst the best in the world..literally.
It's a fantastic place to go as a winter destination with all its varied conditions, including side on waves, down the line riding and cross-off riding as well. If you're looking for somewhere to go next winter then you won't be disappointed if you head to Brazil. What's more you can even go with Jem Hall on one of his clinics, check it out at jemhall.com annnnnd you get to come back to the UK with a tan in the winter.
Check out my video for some action in Jeri and the conditions you can expect.''
