    Tiree 2009, first report...

    15th Oct 2009 @ 01:08:13 PM

sSs Team Rider, Adam Sims, is finishing off the year in style with wall to wall windsurfing planned, this is what he had to say about the Tiree event:

''Just got back from the 2009 Tiree Wave Classic a couple of days early as the forecast went a bit light and the pennies must be saved for the trip to Jeri in a couple of weeks.

I went up a week early with a few of the SWA team riders; SJ, Stef Hilder, Sarah Bibby and Mike Archer to get a bit of practice in before the event and although we didn't get much in the way of epic conditions, we got some nice side-on days and a side shore day with head high sets, so not too bad.

The competiton kicked off with epic conditions; head to logo high starboard-tack side-off from 8 am till 4pm, I only stopped for two ten minute breaks, one of those was lunch. Crashing out early in the single elimination after sailing like a lemon I fought back through a number of heats before facing two PWA sailors in my four man heat, of which only two go through... Although I didn't sail too bad, my tactic of getting practice in before the heats over lunch meant I was pretty exhausted by then and I missed out by 1.5 points on getting through to the next heat.

Other riders like Coxy and Skyeboy were ripping, Skyeboy getting Goiters and nice aerials in his heats to get 2nd overall in the single elimination means he hasn't got much work to do to possibly win it, that's if they manage to finish the double before the end of the week.

I can't forget to point out that I'm on my 82l RRD Twinfin and 5.2 Ezzy Freewave in the pictures and this is what I used for the whole day of competition, the board felt really nice in side-off, showing how versatile it is as an awesome side-on board as well as being perfect for getting tight bottom turns setting you up for nice vertical lip smacks in side-off down the line conditions. I'm really happy with my kit at the moment and feel it's helping me to learn fast and push my level of windsurfing up a notch.''
