2010 Twin Tip, more feedback from the team

    23rd Sep 2009 @ 09:54:20 AM

sSs Team Rider, Connor Bainbridge gives his first impressions of the 2010 Twin Tip from RRD:

''I have recently taken delivery of the new 2010 RRD Twintip 100 and it arrived just before I left home to travel to Weymouth for the Sail for Gold international event which is a week long racing regatta in Weymouth.

The forecast looked good, with high winds forecast for much of the week, so I took my new toy along for the ride. On first impressions it looks even more of a dedicated freestyle board in shape than the old one and with the new graphics I think its better looking too. With the new shape in the rails, deck and underside it looks ready for action.

The first time I took it out it was only blowing 10 knots, so not really freestyle weather, but no matter, I was so desperate to try it out and I quickly rigged up and went for an hour of power light wind freestyling. I can tell you that it is very stable in light winds and is easy to manoeuvre, it feels a lot looser under the feet and in the few gusts we had it proved that it is very quick to get on the plane.

A few days later after a hard day of racing with a 9.5 metre sail in 22 knots all I could think about is trying out the Twintip in fully planing conditions, so I derigged my race kit and quickly rigged up my Ezzy Freewave 5.0.

After only a few runs I realised just how quick this new Twintip is. It is really exhilarating when you go into every move you feel like you can push it even harder and the Twintip will simply make the move look even better. The 2010 Twintip feels to float a little higher on the water and feels much wider than last year’s board which means that switch stance moves become much easier and sliding moves flow a lot better due to the wider rails.

All in all the new Twintip has already boosted my sailing ability pushing me to try new manoeuvres at faster speeds.''

Connor is also Team Rider for Juice Boardsports.
