    Durley Chine in the sunshine

    29th May 2009 @ 02:52:54 PM

sSs Team Rider, Nick Beaney, is a 'time served' racer who enjoys nothing more than a big day out on the waves. Nick was out at Durley Chine, near Bournemouth Pier on 16th May and despite the sunshine he needed his Atan's to stay the distance:

''Durley Chine doesn't get the biggest waves nor the largest winds but my god it’s a fun break to sail.

Paul Kearns and myself arrived with pro photographer John Warren (h2ophoto.org) to sail 2-3ft choppy waves with wind blowing 25 knots cross on... “Good times”. Rigging in double quick time we legged it to the sea with John dragging his thousands of pounds worth of camera gear behind us.

The waves at Durley break very close into shore making looping off the back of them coming in fun but hazardous ! This also makes the wave riding fun but short as Paul and myself found out when we tried riding the same wave together, Paul narrowly missing out on getting my RRD board in the butt! I thought it was funny, but he just looked scared.

The wind blew till 4pm by which time John had taken 900 pictures! And not all of them windsurfing either as by pure luck there was a bikini photo shoot going on right next to him on the beach (lucky git).

Boots are not something you pay much attentions to normally but these Atan Plush-Titanium boots really are the best I have ever worn they feel just like sailing bare foot (really!) but warmer and give your feet some protection too, moving in and out of the footstraps is no effort at all they dont catch up or snag unlike some makes I have worn midway through a manouver.

It was one of those windsurfing days you remember for a long time: good fun conditions, with good mates. ''
